What an awesome hike this was! The day was clear and bright, if a bit cold, but that just meant that the views would be awesome!
Driving into town and into the foothills we were treated to this view and more!
The entrance to the park.
The hike starts off from the trailhead and walks you under some powerlines on a fairly flat stretch. Right before the path turns off into the woods, you get a nice view of a few peaks in the Cascades, powerlines bedamned.
Use this picture as a reference for the next one!
As you hit the woods, there's this sign, which really resonated with me.
You hike along the river for the majority of the hike and every so often the trail takes you to a good spot to look over the water.
Clear blue skies!
I really liked this hike. It was obviously well maintained, and VERY popular, even on a chilly day! We saw people all over and it was wonderful.
I loved the color of the water.
And again it was very green! And very gorgeous!
Mushrooms! Fungi!
There were some nice switchbacks that pulled you up through the hills. This is looking back down toward the water and lower part of the trail.
Yay! We made it 1 mile in! And the markers conveniently tell you how difficult the trail will be!
Some nice shadow lines from the mountains around us.
More river!
More trail signs. I want to do the hike to Wallace Lake now too. Perhaps when I'm better conditioned.
I love the look of rushing water.
Looking west.
Zoomed in view.
First of the falls.
More falls.
Snowline up at the top. Sunny forest. WATERFALL!
The view was pretty spectacular. I find it amusing that for the most part, every hike Eric and I go on we agree is better than the last. The views are amazing, we feel great being outdoors. The people we meet on the trail are incredibly friendly. I just LOVE our new hobby.
I love how the rock has been carved out into a bowl shape by the water. The power of nature at work. It's a beautiful thing!
As the name suggests...
A view of an opposite peak.
I would not want to fall down that....
Looking out over the river valley and the town of Goldbar.
I love how this shot is framed.
We made it to upper falls!
I love this shot too.
And this one.
We had met a family at the top and the husband graciously offered to take our picture, even balancing on a stump to do it! So brave!
About to go over the brink....
A gorgeous day for hiking.
Somewhere in that direction is our apartment. And then the OTHER mountains! Hello Olympic Peninsula!
The river way down at the bottom.
Bah, I should have used this pic for a photo contest I entered into...
Falling can be deadly...
We discovered a geocaching cache!
The family that we had met up at the top on the way down.
Rawr!
A hard type of fungi that was not squishy at all and broke cleanly off from the bark.
A couple enjoying time together on a bench by the river.
The moon was rising as we were leaving the area. Taken near the state salmon hatchery.
