Seeing as how I'm still sore from last week (just wait till I finish the write up about THAT hike, let me tell you), we (read: me) decided to go a bit easier on this hike.
It's still going to be around 6.6 miles round trip, but the elevation gain should be a bit more forgiving. And I'm thinking of bringing along the film camera to experiment! So pictures on facebook might be delayed, you probably won't notice any difference on this blog :P
This hike ended up being a bust. Like, a total bust. It was a rainy rainy day when we set out and the weather didn't change much when we reached the trailhead. This was not a deterrent. The hike we had chosen was not a view hike, it was, in fact, a swamp hike. I was looking forward to it.
The trail head did have another car parked there when we arrived so other people weren't deterred by the weather.
The hike started out on an old logging road that followed power lines and slowly climbed up the mountain.
There were things that probably would have been awesome views of the surrounding mountains that were hidden by the clouds. You could see down the mountain because of the power lines.
The road we were hiking on was pretty decent but very exposed. You can see a very wet and very miserable Eric there....
Because we were basically in a cloud, it made for nice and misty turns in the forest.
There was a nice creek.
Unfortunately, part of the mountain is still being logged.
We reached the turn off for the trail to Silent Swamp and discovered this:
Because the sign detailed legal action should we trespass and take the trail that legal actions could be pressed on us. So we decided to turn around at that point.
The weather had cleared a little bit.

So overall it was a nice hike, ups and downs, but I wish we could have actually reached our destination instead of turning around before we saw what we were hoping to see. Ah well, maybe another time. And next time we're going to be prepared for nearly any type of weather (aka... Eric is going to bring his rain jacket each time)
